The official character page for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter lists 8 party members and 34 other characters. That split is the publisher’s own, and it is worth reading carefully because at least one character you can control sits in the second group.

WHY ANELACE IS THE INTERESTING ENTRY
Anelace Elfead is listed under Other Characters rather than Party Members, and she is also playable in the Prologue. Both statements are true and both come from reading the sources rather than inferring: the official listing places her in the second group, and first-hand demo impressions describe controlling her as a full party member during the Prologue. If you are checking whether a specific character can join your party, the official page’s grouping is the grouping to quote, and the gameplay sources are the ones that tell you when.
THE SCHEZARARD-OR-AGATE CHOICE
The Prologue asks you to pick between Scherazard and Agate. It is a real branch, not a cosmetic one:
- It changes dialogue from that point onward.
- Per player-reported detail, the branch’s consequences reach through Chapter 3 for most content, with one side quest behaving differently.
- Agate’s route and Scherazard’s route have route-specific answers to at least one quest.
If you are planning a single playthrough, treat this as the choice that determines the version of the early game you see. Both characters remain in the cast list either way; the branch decides who travels with you in that stretch.

Fifteen names were announced in total, with seven of them revealed in the launch-date announcement and eight announced earlier. The game ships with full English and Japanese voice acting; see /platforms/ for the full language picture, including which languages are subtitles-only.
PLAYABLE ACROSS THE GAME
The achievement list implies a 12-character roster for orbment purposes: one achievement requires filling every orbment slot for all 12 party members. That is a larger set than the 8 party members the official page lists, which is consistent with guest and temporary party members being usable in battle. Treat 8 as the officially listed party size and 12 as the gameplay figure the achievements use.
