Review scores, and how many reviews they represent

Scores are only useful with their sample size and their platform attached. This page prints both, and labels every figure with how we obtained it.

SCORES WE READ DIRECTLY

Two reviews, two different platforms, and both filed the day before the most widely published release date. That is worth knowing: the review embargo lifted into the launch window, so early coverage is thin relative to the size of the game.

The Steam numbers are the ones to be careful with. The storefront shows two different populations: 370 reviews from people who bought on Steam, and 588 reviews in total once non-purchaser reviews are included. The headline “96% of 370” and the “588 reviews total” are the same product measured two ways, which is why both appear here.

A SECOND-HAND AGGREGATE — LABELLED AS SUCH

An OpenCritic aggregate of 91 average, 97% recommended, 29 reviews is circulating and was carried in a community roundup post we read. We did not read the OpenCritic page itself, so this figure is second-hand and should be treated as such. We also did not obtain a Metacritic aggregate for this release; no Metacritic page was readable during this batch. Rather than print a number we cannot source, both of those are left as stated limitations.

WHAT THE REVIEWS ACTUALLY DISCUSS

Useful for deciding, not just scoring:

HOW TO USE A SCORE HERE

  1. Check which platform the score came from before you apply it to your own purchase. A Switch 2 review is not a PC review.
  2. Check the sample size before treating a percentage as a consensus. Two professional reviews is not a consensus.
  3. Treat reviewer opinions about story and characters as opinions. Treat statements about mechanics, menus and modes as claims to verify against the game.
  4. If a review describes a bug, check the build version it reviewed. This game shipped a hotfix to Ver. 1.03.2, and a bug described pre-hotfix may already be gone.

WHAT THIS PAGE IS NOT

It is not a walkthrough and it is not an achievement guide. Scores say nothing about whether a specific quest is missable. For that, see /walkthrough/, /missions/ and /achievements/.
